2020 Namibia Day 2, Etosha Pan

Wake up after second sleep, ask logistics what that strange sound? I think I left that thing out that made the coffee machine explode the last time. Turn it off I say! Why she protests. Because the last time it took us three days to clean the kitchen and this thing isn’t a third of that size!!! I think she is trying to kill me, or scare me to death. Drink coffee in silence, pack and leave for Etosha Pan, Anderson Gate.

Notice a bunch of bikes in the camp as we leave. I feel envious.

Disappointing day of animal viewing compared to our previous visit in 2007. When the highlight of your game drive is that you only saw three people! Although logistics did briefly attempt tracking after spotting fresh “elephant dung” (love to hear the story behind that conclusion) claiming they went that way… without pointing.

Lovely to see the lush green vegetation, lots of puddles in the road. Eventually decide to drive straight through instead of following the tourist sissy lines around the puddles. The moment the bonnet disappears under water and you keep a straight face like it was planned. (Where’d my number plate go!) Realize now why camping equipment is plastic, so much for those wine glasses we bought yesterday!

Top tourist tip for South Africans, get a Gondwana Card (google it) and save up to 50% on accomodation, in anyone of their excellent facilities. Not a paid for promotion, you can thank me later.

Receive the devastating news of “Mielies” untimely passing as we arrive at Namutoni Gate. RIP Emilie. Condolences to her loved ones, the world lost a legend today.
