EURoadTrip2018 – Mattighofen

So I watched “The Bike Show” this week, the first time ever!!! because they reviewed my current favorite bike, the 790 Duke.

For the most part I was loving the show and couldn’t agree more with Matt Duran’s sentiments, although my heart skipped a beat and I have to admit I checked my pulse when Donovan Fourie suggested “if you bought one of these to do ANY long distance touring, you should probably not be allowed to breathe!”

You see, I’m about to do the best 5000km roadtrip of my life… on a 790 Duke!

He must be right I thought, after all he is on tv. And the internet!

Too late to swap the 790 Duke for the alternative 1090 or 1290 SuperAdventure S, the bikes were booked and prepped months ago!!!

I consoled myself with a day of running around on the 1290 SuperAdventure S, to be sure I had, or hadn’t, made the right, or wrong, decision. Which only made matters exponentially worse! An adrenaline infused day on an executive express! Quickly reaching 200kph, even under running in conditions.

Did you know, every trip, in Cape Town, can start and end in De Waal Drive!

Besides the obvious hype of using the latest generation 790 Duke, I truly love the bike and believe it is the perfect tool to traverse the backroads of Europe. Whereas the 1290 would be better suited to high speed autostrada type conditions and more of a weight compromise on the tighter twistier back routes.

The 1290 SuperAdventure S, is a wolf dressed in a Tuxedo, offering Superbike Performance, Adventure looks and executive comfort. In my opinion, the ultimate road bike.

You sit on the 1290, whereas you seem to wear the 790. I hope Donovan is wrong! the next couple days are going to be quite telling!!
