AUDI A5 Convertible

My best Chauffeur dress….

Ignorance is bliss, at least that has been my philosophy (and coping mechanism) for the last 20 odd years that my business restricted me to commercial vehicles and motorbikes. Remember the days when I thought the perfect people carrier was my #volksiebus a diesel 4Motion van, back when I had a job and responsibilities! Turns out I was right.

My niece asked to take her, and her entourage to their matric dance, I put my feelers out and at the last minute this little gem presented itself via extended family. Thanks Grant!

An Audi Quattro A5 Convertible V6 3l TDI…. a motor I have been lusting after, but never had the opportunity to experience.

DSG, PDC, reverse camera, ooh la la… I should probably point out that I am completely out of touch with anything I think cannot afford. Remember my coping mechanism.

Power and performance have never really mattered to me. If a vehicle speaks to me, I like it. In the unlikely event that it doesn’t, I drive it until it does. Then, if it still doesn’t, I consider it crap and move onto the next one.

From the get go, the Audi exudes quality inspiring confidence, underlined by the Quattro badge, proudly pinned to the dash. A simple touch of the button closes the roof in 17 seconds, another touch and its fully open within 15… even on the go up to 30kph.

The diesel motor doesn’t disappoint, revving unexpectedly freely (and quietly) for a diesel, offering punchy acceleration almost instantly, from anywhere in the rev range, shifting through the auto box with sublime smoothness. Switch to manual for some

PlayStation action, but don’t get the point and quickly return to the more relaxing D.

Sneak up on a few circles to understand what the Quattro (All Wheel Drive) fuss is all about, and I’m hooked. I was led to believe convertibles were heavy, sluggish, wallowing snails. Who would have thought a diesel all wheel drive automatic convertible would be so much fun to drive.

Matriculants loaded, roof up (to protect the hair), destination set in SATNAV, media player loaded, we set off sedately in a mature stately manner.

Only upon dropping the Quattro so I find out it is a 2013 model selling for R249k.

Unbelievable value for a premium quality vehicle at a ridiculously affordable price. Definitely worth taking a look at if your in the R250k market.

Ignorance was bliss… now I want more!

Thano you Driving Force for making a special occasion, extra special!
