The Stelvio and the Alpine passes
Forty-eight hairpins on one side. The road every petrolhead wants to tick off.
The Stelvio Pass climbs to over 2,700 metres with 48 numbered hairpins on the Prato side and a long sweeping descent to Bormio on the other. Nearby are the Gavia, the Mortirolo, the Umbrail and the Bernina, so you can spend days up there and never repeat a road.
It's the one road everyone tells you about. It's busy, it's slow in summer, and it's still worth it.
