Montagu Pass
Gravel, old stone bridges, and my first proper pass, in Ducati leathers on a 950.
Montagu Pass was built in the 1840s and it still feels like it. Narrow gravel, dry-stone walls, old bridges and the toll house at the bottom. The main road over the Outeniquas goes past it a few kilometres away, and almost nobody bothers.
The first time I rode it I was in full Ducati race leathers on a 950, which tells you everything about what I knew back then. I've been back many times since, dressed more sensibly. It's still my favourite pass in the Cape.
