Grootberg Lodge
A lodge on the lip of an escarpment, with a driveway that earns the view.
Grootberg sits right on the edge of the plateau, and from the deck you look out over the whole of the Klip River valley. The driveway up is steep and rocky, so a 4x4 or a bike makes sense. In a hire car you'll leave it at the bottom and they'll fetch you.
We arrived in 2017 covered in dust and slightly shaky from the last climb. Then a cold drink and that view, and suddenly we were experts.
